Happy New Year!! Here was our fun shoot for Nolan this week. It’s only going to get harder to photograph him since he is getting much more active by the day. He’s growing up way too fast and his personality is shining even brighter. I can’t wait to see what this little inquisitive person has in store for me for the rest of my life.

Immediately after the shoot he starts giggling and laughing like crazy.
For the first time ever we kept Nolan up WAY past his bedtime to ring in the new year. He was the only baby at the party and was a great sport about it. He got to meet tons of aunts and uncles and “unce’d” the night away. Immediately after midnight we whisked him home to his crib where he slumbered soundly into the first of the year. Check out this cool clip Rob captured of us right at midnight! And, no, we did not dub in the music to the video. It was actually playing at the party. =)
It’s only been a week since Christmas but it seems as if it was already ages ago. Probably because we did so much in such a short period of time. Over the weekend we embarked on a 2.5 day road trip to visit Hearst Castle in San Simeon. Boy, has packing for a baby gotten 1,000x harder since he started eating solids! I was SUPER anxious and totally stressed out about the whole thing. This little person literally needs 10x as much stuff as we do and just making the list, the thought of forgetting something and fitting all that stuff into the car was a nightmare. This trip was a huge eye opener so now I am even more stressed about packing for Europe this spring. We won’t have a car so everything must be packed up and taken along for a 4 country, 3 week trip. Pray that I survive, please!
We made a pit stop in Solvang on our way up to Hearst Castle. Rob’s sister and niece met us up.

With his Aunt Mary.

Finally at Hearst Castle. This guy, William Randolph Hearst, was ridiculously rich and got pretty much anything he wanted. He inherited his millions from mom + dad and invested it in a ton of works of art that’s displayed in and around his “castle”. Note that there are several tours you can choose from and going on just 1 makes you feel completely empty. If you can, plan for 2 if you could so you can see more of the property. We did the “grand rooms” tour and were left wondering how the bedrooms and cottages looked. As for baby amenities–no strollers allowed so bring along your baby carrier. They do have a private baby room for changing diapers and feeding. Ask any of the employees and they will grant you access to it. We found out too late so didn’t actually get to use it.

Daddy and son pool time.

The grand feasting room.

The roman pool was quite decadent made of real gold.

Nolan with his cousin, Abigail.

In the midst of packing up the car full of mostly Nolan’s gear. Crazy puzzle that Rob was able to manage.

Here’s my happy little guy who found his pacifier in Daddy’s pocket and reached for it.

With mommy and daddy on Morro Bay beach with matching “mommy + me” parkas.

Til next week, take care!

If you were wondering…for this entire trip I used the Canon 40mm pancake lens. I didn’t want to hassle with anything bigger b/c we had enough to lug around as it is. =)
